Coffee & Evangelism

Posted on March 22, 2023.

I’ve heard many times that the reason people don’t share their faith is because it feels awkward, they don’t know how, or they are afraid of being rejected. Maybe for you, it’s one of these things, but most of the time it’s a mixture of all three. Today, we wanna talk a little bit about how coffee can be a great partner to evangelism.

Coffee is one of my favorite things in the world. I am a coffee nerd. I have taken time to learn about the best temperatures for steamed milk, dosing sizes for espresso shots, brew times for pour over coffee, growing processes for coffee plants, and much more. Even with all that in mind, one of my favorite things about coffee is that going to get a cup of coffee with a friend or serving others coffee can be an open door to share the gospel with them. As followers of Jesus, we are called to make disciples of all nations, and a big part of that is sharing the gospel!

One of the easiest ways to evangelize, is to share your experience with Jesus and invite others to experience the same! People can talk all day about how they don’t believe in God because they have never experienced Him personally, but your experience cannot be taken away because you lived it. There is power when we share what God has done for us, and what He continues to do for us!

Some of my favorite moments with people that I am personally leading and people that I am being led by have been over a cup of coffee. Coffee is an easy conversation starter in getting to know someone you’ve never met, and when the conversation shifts to them asking about you and your life there is an opportunity there to share about Jesus. These moments don’t always lead to someone accepting Jesus as their Savior, but the ones that do are worth all the moments of rejection and awkwardness. So our challenge to you is this: maybe there’s someone on your heart this week, and if not pray and ask the Lord to highlight someone to you. Then take that person out or have them over for coffee, share how Jesus has changed your life, and invite them to experience the same.
