When people hear “gap year,” they think of a short period of time between high school and college where an individual aimlessly travels in order “to find yourself.”
Taking a gap year with Youth With a Mission Denver, will allow you to pause your life, focus on God, see the world, find your passions, and so much more.
The question is; Is a gap year right for you?
For me the answer was almost obvious; I had just graduated high school, didn’t know what to study in college and I wanted to get outside of my small Pennslyvania town and see more of the world. The decision isn’t always that easy, with pressures from parents, friends, and school to immediately go to university. Taking a gap year was the best thing for me and completely changed my life for the better.
Here are a few reasons why a gap year could be beneficial to you.
If you’ve come to a crossroad, gap years are traditionally only considered for students after high school, but you can do it whenever. We are always facing crossroads in life -when you graduate high school, college, change jobs. Every day is a chance to change your path and try something new.
That’s the beauty of a gap year; there isn’t an age requirement or time restriction. Gap years encourage you to discover your passions and help you build dreams for your future by giving you space to step outside of your comfort zone.
A gap year gives you a chance to focus on someone other than yourself; it challenges you to see the world from a different perspective. Focusing on yourself isn’t bad, but it’s important to take a step back and look at the world around you. When you look outside of your ‘normal,’ you find diverse culture, crazy life stories and so much more. God gives you His heart for others if you ask for it and you’ll never regret it.
Taking a year off from school is an incredible experience that I strongly support. It encourages you to build dreams for the future and gives you new perspectives on life; it also helps to zero in on what you are passionate about.
Whether or not you feel like you have it all figured out, taking a gap year will teach you so much about yourself and the world around you.
Why not take the chance?
